MENDHAR , 16 April 2019. A Veterans Rally cum Medical Outreach Campaign for Veer Naries, Ex Servicemen and the local population of Poonch and Rajouri districts was organised at OP Hill Stadium Mendhar on 16 April 2019. Major General PS Bajwa General Officer Commanding, Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) graced the occasion alongwith other Senior Army Officers and government officials from the region. The event was attended by approximately 980 Veterans, 43 Veer Naries and 64 Widows from Poonch and Rajouri districts.
During the Rally, Veer Naris and Veterans were felicitated with education Scholarships for their wards and Modified Auto Scooters 05, Walking Sticks 98, Wheel Chairs 16, Wall Clock’s 1000, Juicer Mixer Grinder 120, Elbow Crutches 21, and Crutches 32 were distributed to the needy Veterans free of Cost. The rally was conducted in close coordination with state administration and Zila Sainik Board, with focus on redressal of grievances, addressing anomalies in disbursement of pension, land and legal issues of Ex Servicemen and Veer Naries and providing them information about various welfare schemes being run by the State/ Central Govt.
The Medical Camp was organised alongwith the Rally for benefit of the Veterans from remote locations. In addition to the Medical Officers and specialists from Indian Army, Services of specialists from Civil Administration was available at site for the needy. The specialists available during the event included Medical specialist, Gynaecologist, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist, Urologist, Padiatrician and Dental surgeon.
Veterans are the strength of Indian Army and represent large numbers in Poonch and Rajouri districts. They continue to remain backbone of the society. Indian Army takes great pride in honouring and remembering its Veterans by organising such events on regular basis and extending a sense of belongingness.
