Following in the footsteps of his late father Sunil Dutt, Sanjay Dutt is being reported to be contesting in the forthcoming Lok Sabha 2019 elections from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Looks like Sanjay Dutt is ready to follow in his late father Sunil Dutt’s footsteps and contest elections. The latest buzz on the grapevine says that the 59-year-old actor is expected to be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 elections.
Before his father Sunil Dutt passed away, the legendary actor also served as the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government for a brief period of about a year that ended with his demise. His daughter Priya Dutt, Sanjay’s sister, had succeeded him as the Member of Parliament for Mumbai North West.
For the unversed, Sanjay Dutt had earlier entered politics and joined the Samajwadi Party in 2010, but his association with the party did not last for long. He quit in 2019. A few years later, the Bollywood actor said that politics is a different world. “I don’t know why I entered politics…what happened. I did a mistake. I don’t think any actor fits there completely,” Dutt was cited as saying by Indian Express.
Latest media reports doing the rounds, now, suggest that Sanjay would be contending for Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad constituency in the elections just around the corner. As per a News18 report, “SP-BSP combine can play the stakes on Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt to give them a hit.”
Interestingly enough, Sanjay Dutt had also done a movie in 2013, alongside Arshad Warsi, Vivek Oberoi and Minissha Lamba among others, titled Zila Ghaziabad.
On the film front, Sanjay Dutt will next be seen in Abhishek Varman’s Kalank where he would be seen sharing screen space with Madhuri Dixit after a gap of 22 years. The period drama, set in 1945, would also feature Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur. Produced by Karan Johar, the movie is slated for an April 17, 2019 release.
Sanjay Dutt has also been signed by Mahesh Bhatt for the second instalment of his 1991 movie Sadak, Sadak 2 which will also see Pooja Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles.
