SRINAGAR, APR 5 (PTK): Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said that the removal of Article 370 means cutting off Kashmir from India.
In an Interview with India Today, Mehbooba Mufti said that Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim majority state. In very special circumstances Kashmir had merged with India, there were many conditions in it. This is not like the rest of the states. Under the Indian constitution, we are guaranteed Section 370, special status and different flags. This is the foundation of our relationships. If you eliminate these conditions, then Kashmir’s relationship with India will end.
He said that Kashmir was part of India on the basis of the condition. Sixty to 70 percent of Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir are Muslims. Why did not we go with Pakistan even after the Muslim majority? We chose India on these terms. Section 370 and 35 A is like a bridge. If you end it then the relationship between India and Kashmir will end.
On the question of coalition with BJP, Mehbooba Mufti said that when we joined hands with BJP, it was said that there will be no tampering with Article 370. BJP also agreed to this. With all these things we went with the BJP.
On the question about Kashmir’s own PM’s statement, Mehbooba Mufti said that when the election comes, the National Conference misses being a separate Prime Minister. He has formed a government with a majority. During that time he did not talk of being a different PM. Sheikh Abdullah never spoke like this As far as PDP is concerned, we believe that Kashmir has made India a part on some conditions and if these conditions break, our relationship will also be broken.
