Srinagar: Israeli snipers shot at and wounded an iconic shirtless Palestinian protester who took the internet by storm during the Great March of Return protests on the boundary with Gaza last month.
20-year-old Aed Abu Amro was injured after Israeli snipers fired at him during a demonstration in Gaza on Monday, Russia TV reported today.
Quoting the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, RT reported that ten people including a child and a journalist were also injured.
RT reported that Amro appears to have been shot in the leg and that he was recovering at a Gaza hospital.
Amro’s picture with a slinging stone in one hand and a Palestinian flag in another, made headlines in the world media last month. His picture also took internet by storm.
“A’ed Abu Amro, of this iconic photo, was one of at least 21 reportedly shot by Israeli snipers today in #Gaza, while participating in a demonstration in support of a Palestinian Freedom Ship that set sail to challenge Israel’s naval blockade. #Flotilla #Palestine,” human rights activist Huwaida Arraf posted on her Twitter handle.
Over 23,000 Palestinians have been injured in the almost-daily protests that began on March 30, and 230 have been killed, according to the Red Crescent Society, RT reported.
