Srinagar May 16:Islamic states’s acclaimed millitant Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi was busted Friday morning in a Shopian encounter.
Thousands gathered at sofi’s home, including women and children, jostled for the last last glimpse of Ishfaq’s covered body laying on a bed.
The funeral procession went through the lanes of the home town with youth crying, shouting and saluting the martyr. Slogans of “Moosa Moosa, Zakir Moosa” and anti-India slogans echoed in the town.
The procession of men, women and children went to the Model Town ground. Here the funeral prayers were said. The ground was packed to the brim.
Majority of people gathered at sofi’s place before the dawn broke the crus. Loud and energetic slogans were raised in favour of Azadi and in honour of Mir. Hundreds of people were trying to record the scenes on their mobile phones.
The slain militant was laid to rest in the local martyrs’ graveyard of Iqbal market Sopore .
The mourners walked back to Sofis home to once again show condolences to his family.
Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi Aka khalifa son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi was the resident of Sopore, North kashmir. Sofi, is the eldest of three siblings, he has an younger sister. His father reminds of him, getting in jail in 2015, for on charges of militancy and was imprisoned under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA). In Srinagar jail for almost one year.
He was arrested many times, he spent almost all his life in jails, sofi was badly tortured, it resulted him losing his left arm and backbone. His mother died in this trauma.Ishfaq was arrested again in 2012 then released.
In January 23 2016 he again arrested including his five OGWs in Shangergund area of sopore and detained under PSA . He said Ishfaq got 8 PSA in his life.
The police stated that Sofi had a long history of involvement in terror activities and was wanted in a number of terror cases registered at many Police Stations including Sopore and Srinagar.
Primarily Ishfaq was the member of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, which was wiped out by the army forces in 2012. He was the only alive member of the HuM. In a major breakthrough ahead of then republic day celebrations in Kashmir, security forces busted a network of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) in Sopore area of North Kashmir and arrested five militants of the outfit who were planning attacks on VIPs and security forces including Ishfaq.
Police in Sopore and Army’s 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) conducted searches in Sangrama area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and arrested Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi and his accomplice and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession. Ishfaq was on a way to reestablish the HuM empire in the kashmir valley. He is accused of throwing a grenade at the 82 CRPF battalion in Srinagar in November 2015 and injured 13 soldiers, ahead of prime minister Narendra Modi’s visit and many other terror activities.
In 2018, Indian intelligence agencies have been informed that Khalifa, commander of Harkat-Ul-Mujahideen in Kashmir, has announced his exit from the outfit and pledged allegiance to Islamic State.In audio and text message posted on Telegram channels, Khalifa aka Ishfaq Sofi also denounced the ISI calling them as Murtad (apostate). He has accused the ISI of threatening his family and demanding ransom for his exit.
Ishfaq not only joined but also invited youngsters to follow Islamic State.
