Bandipora, March 15: Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zahoor Ahmad Mir on Friday planted a Chinar tree in the premises of Mini-Secretariat Bandipora to mark the celebration of Chinar Day.
During the Day the Department of Floriculture planted several Chinars in the district to celebrate the Chinar Day. Speaking on occasion, ADC Bandipora said that the administration has set a target to plant 1200 Chinars in the district and directed the department to take proper care of the plants till required so that all the planted Chinars grow into trees.
While laying stress on preserving and protecting the Chinars, Mir He said the Chinar is a symbol of Kashmir’s rich heritage and urged people should stop constructions near Chinars to damage them. He also stressed on increasing the green cover in the district by planting more trees. He said the plantation drive should not be a mere Photo Op but the plants should be taken care of properly so that the plantation is successful and helps in increasing green cover.
He also asked concerned to generate awareness on importance of preserving Chinars as essential for our ecological benefits and said that stringent action will be taken against any person found indulging in cutting, damaging or vandalizing the Chinars any way at anywhere in the district.
